Last January, when Catherine kindly put me up for a few days on my way back to Paris from Austrailia, she took me up into the rainforest near where she lives. When the path got steep - very steep - she peeled off her shoes and climbed the rest of the way barefoot. This provoked numerous surprised comments from various well-shod people on their way down. Catherine smiled sweetly and said she felt more comfortable like that. Anyway, here she is on the canopy walkway - barefoot.
