Julie's Powerful Message About Cat. We're All In Tears!

JOYEUX ANNIVERSAIRE CATHERINE! Birthday Bisous from the Bedonalds
When Catherine walked into a Twickenham CND meeting in 1983, it seemed as though the dingy room over the pub became filled with light. Not only was she one gorgeous-looking chick, but the humour, optimism, courage, and sheer joie de vivre she radiated transformed the mood in the room from one of earnest, rather solemn, intensity to buoyant dynamism. I knew right then that that smile would change my life for the better - and be a positive force in the lives of so many others. Twickenham CND became a power to be reckoned with, and Catherine's upbeat determination and clear-headed refusal to be cowed motivated and inspired us in our long march through the Thatcher Years.
I stood back and watched as she always made the first leap, and if she felt fear, well, she went ahead and did it anyway. She wrote beautiful, vivid letters to me regularly through her travels in India, China and New Zealand, sharing her adventures, always making me feel I was with her in sprirt. I looked on in admiration when she took off for Nicaragua, effortlessly learning the language, and throwing herself into her work for the Coffee Brigade of the Nicaraguan Solidarity Campaign. And then heading off for Greenham Common, fearlessly fighting for peace, looking out for the other women, looking out for the world.
And man can she tell a story! We were helpless with laughter as she recounted her travels through West Africa, saying to all and sundry "Je t'aime" (I love you) instead of Je l'aime bien" (I like it) Needless to say, she was a big hit in Senegal...!
When she decided that she was going to move to Malaysia, she took her life into her own hands and tirelessly and purposefully planned and worked to get where she wanted to go and where was best for her and Akira to be. All obstacles, no matter how mountainous, surmounted with her usual grace and decisiveness.
She has set the perfect example to me in the way she's bringing up her beautiful daughter Akira, and I'll never forget how my weenies sighed with pure bliss when she took them in her arms and allowed this neurotic mother to calm down!
Since those very first days in Twickenham, Catherine been an inspiration to me. She's seen me through some pretty rough times, and I know I can always count on her. The night before I moved from London to Paris on New Year's Eve, 1991, and from a tired, old relationship to a scary new one, she stayed with me, held me, kept me together. That night, she said to me as I wept and wailed, whinged and moaned: "Remember, Julie, wherever you go, you take yourself with you". And miraculously made me feel that that was a good thing!

My darling Catherine, wherever you've gone (and you've been almost everywhere!) you've taken yourself with you, lighting up people's lives, making them laugh, dance and sing, helping them through, making them feel anything's possible. I should know! And now you're in the land of your dreams, blooming where you've planted yourself, bringing love and joy to everyone around you.
I miss you with every fibre of my being, and am typing through tears, and yet I know you're right here with me. I love you dearly, and Jean-Marc, Sam, Niamh and I wish you JOYEUX ANNIVERSAIRE! And the happiest birthday you have EVER had.

Akira's Most Precious Message to Mum

Happy Birthday Mum!
You’ve lived another year of your life doing the things you love. You are the best mother I could ask for. You may think you get things wrong a lot of the time, but I know that no matter what there will never be another mother who does it half as well as you. Enjoy your day, being surrounded by people who love you and enjoy your company, for bringing so much light into their lives. I love you so much mum.
Happy Birthday.
Love

Ida Mariana Sends Her Love To Catherine

Happy Birthday Catherine!!!

I remember first hearing a lot about you (through a certain 'puppy').... And everytime that puppy spoke of you, I could tell she was filled with love and respect for you. You were Godsent she said, allowing her to 'just be' - sometimes that responsible and wonderful adult and yet also to 'just be' that child that is within.

Then I met you at No Black Tie, when one of her writings were being performed... Our first instance of meeting was one of silence and 'a knowing' (we were listening to the piece being read/performed on stage) .... You were holding puppy in the most loving, comforting, nurturing way.... I saw at that moment that this is were you both belong. With each other, next to each other, for each other. Then the reading ended and eventually we said a big hello... We hugged. Let me tell you what I felt in just that one hug-hello .... I felt love, joy, humour, laughter, strength, loyalty, compassion, passion and child-like-wonder... And that was just the hug Catherine! ;)

What a joy to later find that you are a that and more, especially seeing you speak about MJ 'falling upon you' in your bed!! LOL! "What a HOOT!!", I thought to myself... We met on several occasions after that, but all the time, you are vibrant, giving and exude the 'lover of life' aura...

So, that is you, in my mind,... ' fun loving lover of life'!

Happy birthday 'fun loving lover of life'...

ON this road called Life,
May there be joy ahead of you
May there be daffodils of Love lining this roadside
May there be a river of champagne and wine alongside this road
... and a river of gooey chocolate on the other
May there be rains of laughter along the way
... and sunshine of smiles
May you be able to give so much to others
... that you get much more in return
May you be kind able to be kind
... to receive kindness in return
May you continue to love life
.. as it loves you back in return.

Happy birthday gorgeous one!

Love,
Her Dory-ness aka Clownfish!!

Birthday Memory Message from Elizabeth & Family

Dear Catherine,

One of many cherished memories I have of my beautiful sister is of her being, as always, my adventure pal and loving protector.

When I was very, very small we decided life at No. 9 Glebe Avenue just wasn't up to scratch.  So we planned to 'run away!'.

Catherine helped me get dressed and she wrote a note for the family (on the back of our dad's precious map) explaining we'd 'gone off !'.  I think we were planning to make our way at some local farm (Tess of the D'Urbervilles style).

We got just past the end of our road and realized we were hungry, thirsty, tired and (horror of horrors!) my dress was on back to front!!! There was only one thing to do MISSION ABORT!

We skulked back home, hid the map and said nothing.  (But we knew we'd run away to a farm.)

Love you Catherine.  Wishing you a lovely, lovely birthday.  Wish we could be there.

Prem [SWEDEN] likes the sounds Cat makes!

I haven't known Cat for very long. The first time I met her was at No Black Tie where she was whooping away to the singers. Then we went to 'Waikiki' together and she made strange noises there as well (what's now become her trademark 'rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' sound). She's kooky, she's crazy but as grounded as a person can be.

But the best thing about her is that she makes my sister happy (can I say that?) YES YOU CAN, says the sister!!!

Logan Burke's [UK] Most Beautiful Message About Love & Life

Dear Catherine,
I never knew what a good friendship you and my mother would have when I first saw you as a little boy.  I only remember what a nice person you were and have become.  It's always great to see and hear from both you and Akira.  You are one of those people who made me see how important it is to take time for people who care about you also.
A very valuable lesson to learn if there ever was one.  I hope you are both well.
Lots of love,
Logan

Happy Birthday Aunty Cat Cat from William Ferguson & Deborah [UK]

Well what can I say, another older and you still look 20 something! it must be good genes!
One of the pictures I've posted is us visiting Nanna, I thought it was a nice picture of all of us and you can tell that Nanna is smiling, and also (because of my hair) you can tell it would of been the time that I live with you and Akira.
Although that was only a year it seems like so much longer, it was a really good time for me, and you hope for you two aswell. It was a good stepping stone from young teen living with mummy to living alone. In hind sight I should of stayed abit longer but oh well we live with the decisions we make. Even so I will always remember the nice routine we all had in the mornings, Akira in the bathroom while I made two slices of toast-one butter, one jam. And knowing that when the two of you left i had 10 minutes!!!
Desperate Housewives on a Wednesday,
Going to Reena's on Thursday for curry, cheesecake, eastenders and a movie.
The millions of Bratz that dominated the house, along with my fake hair!
And all the random things we did like dance and music shows, walking along with coffee on Finchley road, you really made me settle into the London life, and made me feel like part of the elite. Always so much fun and new exciting things to do. Freedom to be a 16 year who thought she knew it all while also being a helpful aunty with love and advise.
I can't believe that was all 5 years ago! Even though you are not round the corner anymore, you now provide a wonderful get away, still filled with fun and excitment, always doing the best activities and having grandest adventures!
Thank you for being a wonderful aunty and for adding facebook so that I can keep tabs and see what you're up to every so often!
Happy Birthday Miaow Leyow! (ha I just thought of that!)

Lots of love Deborah and William. x x x

Sham, Cavita, Anna & Baby Celebrate Cat's Birthday Early

Joanna & Ben Littlewood [UK]

Looking lost on my first day as an agency teaching assistant I entered Holy Trinity Primary School. I stumbled into the school office and was greeted by a very chirpy Cat. Filled with nerves and anticipation, Cat soon put me at ease with her wonderful smile and pointed me in the right direction. From that day onwards (until she left for Malaysia) Cat was always on hand to help me out whenever I became 'lost' in our little rabbit warren of a school.

As time passed by and I went from agency worker to permanant staff, Cat and I found some common ground...Malaysia! Cat's love of the country and me being half Malaysian we began to chat about our experiences. It soon became apparent the Cat was much more immersed in the Malaysian way of life than I was, and putting me to shame when it came to speaking Malay!

We enjoyed many staff nights out together. But there is one such event that will remain with me for a long time! It was the first staff night out I had ever been to. We went out for a chinese and karaoke. After stuffing ourselves with food and drinks we ventured into the karaoke room where Cat proceeded to sing "We're leaving on a jet plane," in her highest most squeakiest voice. This 'noise' has been etched into my memory!

She has also proved to be a romantic...welling up when I told her the news of my engagement! Then receiving the most thoughtful gift to celebrate this, a copy Cyrano de Bergerac which I have read many times since.

Cat, Holy Trinity misses your presence greatly. Your fantastic smile and bubbly personality was always a help whenever I had a bad day. Have a brilliant birthday. Ben sends his love. We hope to meet up with you and Akira in KL next year.

Lots of Love
Jo Littlewood (was Cheng) xxx
